چکیده

ABSTRACT Background: About 50% of patients that suffer from trigeminal neuralgia do not experience sustained benefit the use oral medication. For their adequate management, a few surgical procedures are available. Of these, percutaneous balloon compression (PBC) and microvascular decompression (MD) two most performed worldwide. In this retrospective study, we present outcomes these techniques through estimation initial pain relief subsequent recurrence rate. Methods: Thirty-seven with medically refractory surgically treated at Hospital Cajuru, Curitiba, Brazil, PBC, MD or both between 2013 2018 were enrolled into study. The post-procedural rate for associations patient demographics analyzed. Results: had an earlier time than compression. 37 patients, mean age was 61.6 years, approximately one third male type I neuralgia. affected branch maxillary (V2). after surgery on average 11.8 months PBC 9.0 MD. Complications seen only microsurgery. Conclusions: presented more precocious in article. Moreover, it higher described literature as well, which is possibly explained by graft (muscle) used to separate neurovascular structures.

Percutaneous balloon compression for trigeminal neuralgia.

Percutaneous balloon compression is a simple and effective treatment for trigeminal neuralgia. It is especially useful in patients with first-division pain because it does not injure the myelinated fibers that mediate the blink reflex. It is most helpful in patients with pain that has spread across multiple divisions because it does not require multiple lesions. It is also helpful in patients w...

Microvascular Decompression for Trigeminal Neuralgia.

BACKGROUND Trigeminal Neuralgia (TGN) is the most frequently diagnosed type of facial pain. In idiopathic type of TGN it is caused by the neuro-vascular conflict involving trigeminal nerve. Microvascular decompression (MVD) aims at addressing this basic pathology in the idiopathic type of TGN. This study was conducted to determine the outcome and complications of patients with idiopathic TGN un...

Microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia.

Eleven patients with intractable trigeminal neuralgia were treated by posterior fossa microvascular decompression. Complete pain relief was achieved in 7 patients (63.3%). Partial relief of symptoms was noted in 3 patients (27%). There was no operative mortality. Two patients developed transient lower cranial nerve palsies whereas one patient developed a CSF leak, requiring treatment by lumbar ...

Microvascular Decompression for Primary Trigeminal Neuralgia : Short-Term Follow-Up Results and Prognostic Factors

OBJECTIVE The aim of this prospective study was to demonstrate the influence of some factors on the prognosis of microvascular decompression in 37 patients with trigeminal neuralgia. METHODS The results of microvascular decompression (MVD) in 37 patients with trigeminal neuralgia were evaluated at 6 months after surgery and were compared with clinical and operative findings. RESULTS The sex...
